The Photo’s we take gives a glimpse of our memories that are very sweet and solace in this fast moving world, which has not a time machine to bring back the most important moments of our life. However great a photographer may be and his camera, but the successful image with great effect is possible only when the lighting is perfect.
Yes, here comes the role of lighting. Lighting controls the mood and atmosphere of a shot and it is important to manipulate the light for the best possible color, texture and feel of the subject.
The studio lighting offers the illumination to be controlled with the subject, camera and the entire exposure, by the photographer. Studio lighting uses Flashes, strobes, one or more lights with reflectors and modifiers and also uses types of artificial lightings known as continuous and flash.
Since continuous lighting is inexpensive and a comfortable one for mini budget, it produces more heat than light, that makes the subject uncomfortable and upset. It often makes the models iris to close in the eyes which doesn’t make a good portrait. The continuous lighting subdivides into tungsten, fluorescent and metal discharge.
The Flash lights are favorite tool for photographers as they are easy to use, cheap and battery-powered. The flash lights are synchronized as they fire when the camera shutter opens. There are two types of flash as on-camera flash units and studio flash units. The on-camera flash that is connected to the camera communicates well and focuses even in the dark settings. The on-camera flash sets according to the camera ISO settings, camera lens and also adjusts the power output. The studio flash units are easy to use and have power far more than the previous one and can be used with the modifiers.
Positioning the light gives the variety of outcome you need at the photo upon the model. It determines the effect you want on the subject. The light stands are crucial for these roles as they support the flash heads that determines the angle to the model and in right direction.
The reflectors reduce the unwanted shadows and provide a directional light. It reflects the light from a source such as sun or studio strobe onto the model. It requires no power and is used often in fashion photography and outdoor portraits.
The other equipments that are used in effective studio photography include model light, light modifiers that include diffusers, grids, gauze, umbrellas, barn doors, and softbox. The standard 3-light setup plays a very important role in a scene to play with a key light, a fill light and a separation light.
The studio lighting gives a variety of portraits that give us the most awesome feel that we don’t get only by a photographers talent. The studio lighting virtually brings the scene in front of the eyes with the taste it lasts forever with a professional touch which is highly appreciable.
